Jerusalem Talmud Sheviit
Jerusalem Talmud Sheviit: the Gemara of the land of Israel on Mishnah Sheviit ("The Seventh Year"), in the order Zera'im (Seeds). The sabbatical year: letting the land lie fallow, the produce of that year, and the release of debts (Exodus 23:10-11; Leviticus 25; Deuteronomy 15). The Jerusalem Talmud (Talmud Yerushalmi) was compiled in Galilee, chiefly at Tiberias, about AD 400; each halakhah quotes a passage of the Mishnah (MISHNAH) and then discusses it (HALAKHAH). It is rabbinic law and teaching, not scripture. English and Hebrew/Aramaic by Heinrich W. Guggenheimer; his footnotes are not reproduced. In the English, words in parentheses and square brackets are his deletions and additions; in the Hebrew, a reading in parentheses is the manuscript's, deleted, and the one in square brackets his correction.
