Josephus's own preface to the Antiquities of the Jews (c. AD 93), his 20-book history of the Jewish people from Creation to the eve of the war with Rome, addressed to his Roman patron Epaphroditus and explaining his purpose: to give Greek and Roman readers an accurate, complete account of Jewish history and law.
