The Lesser Key of Solomon: Goetia 1

Translated by S.L. MacGregor Mathers and published, with additions of his own, by Aleister Crowley in 1904 after the two had fallen out; reissued without authorization by L.W. de Laurence in 1916, the printing this text follows. Book I of the traditional five-book Lemegeton compilation, itself of unknown 17th-century authorship. Not scripture in any tradition -- a catalog of 72 spirits Solomon is legendarily said to have bound, each with the Legions it commands, the form it appears in, and its seal. The seal of each spirit and the drawings of the magic circle and triangle in the printed edition are not reproduced here.
1Bael. —The First Principal Spirit is a King ruling in the East, called Bael. He maketh thee to go Invisible. He ruleth over 66 Legions of Infernal Spirits. He appeareth in divers shapes, sometimes like a Cat, sometimes like a Toad, and sometimes like a Man, and sometimes all these forms at once. He speaketh hoarsely. This is his character which is used to be worn as a Lamen before him who calleth him forth, or else he will not do thee homage.
