Sayings of Jesus (Papyrus Oxyrhynchus 5575) 1
A small papyrus leaf from Oxyrhynchus in Egypt, copied in the 2nd century AD and first published in 2023 (P.Oxy. LXXXVII 5575), with sayings of Jesus close to Matthew 6 and Luke 12 (do not be anxious about food and clothing; the lilies and Solomon's glory; the grass thrown into the oven) mixed with wording known from the Gospel of Thomas (the rich man who died; "unless you fast from the world"). Whether it is a collection of sayings or a lost gospel is unknown. This is Mark M. Mattison's public-domain translation: verse 1 is the front of the leaf (recto), verse 2 the back (verso). Square brackets mark gaps and restorations, parentheses his supplied words. His notes (the parallels) are not reproduced. Not part of any church's canon.
