In historical use by: Catholic (the Roman Rite, in the Tridentine form used until the liturgical reform of the 1960s) — The Proper of Saints for August, in the English of F. C. Husenbeth's 1853 Missal for the use of the Laity, including St Peter's Chains, the Transfiguration, St Laurence, the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary with its Octave, St Bartholomew, St Augustin and the Beheading of St John Baptist; many days are given by their first words from the Common of Saints with the prayers proper to that saint. A liturgical text of the Catholic Church, not scripture: its Lessons, Epistles and Gospels are readings from Scripture, but the rest is prayer. The form carried here is the one in use from the Council of Trent until the 1950s reform; the Church has since revised the rite. English only for now; the Latin is to be added.
The Masses of the saints' days for August in the English of the Rev. F. C. Husenbeth's Missal for the use of the Laity (London, 1853), in the form used from the Council of Trent until the liturgical reform of the 1950s: St Peter's Chains, St Dominic, the Transfiguration, St Laurence with his Octave, the Vigil and Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary with its Octave, St Bartholomew, St Augustin and the Beheading of St John Baptist. Many days give only the first words of a Mass in the Common of Saints, with the prayers proper to that saint. This is the English only; the Latin is to be added. The words in square brackets are the Missal's own headings and directions. A liturgy of the Catholic Church, not scripture.
