Acts of Andrew (Fragment and Martyrdom)

Ascribed to the apostle Andrew; the original Acts, probably of the 3rd century AD and associated with the name Leucius, survive only in fragments, epitomes and later reworkings, and the author is unknown. This book holds the two stretches of the ancient text that survive in translatable form: Andrew's discourse to the brethren in prison at Patrae in Achaia (from a Vatican manuscript), and his martyrdom under the proconsul Aegeates, whose wife Maximilla and brother Stratocles are converted, with Andrew's address to the cross he is bound to. The martyrdom is a reconstruction pieced together from several Greek and Latin sources.
