Acts of Peter

Ascribed to the apostle Peter; author unknown, probably a writer in Asia Minor, composed in Greek not later than about AD 200 and modelled on the Acts of John. The complete book is lost. This translation gives the Coptic fragment about Peter's paralysed daughter, and the Latin Vercelli Acts and the Martyrdom: Peter's contest in Rome with Simon Magus, who is brought down in mid-flight, the 'Quo vadis?' meeting with the Lord, and Peter's crucifixion head downward with his speech to the crowd. Its main witnesses are a seventh-century Latin manuscript at Vercelli, Greek manuscripts of the Martyrdom, and a Coptic papyrus of the fourth or fifth century.
