Testament of Abraham (Version I)

Pseudonymously attributed to the patriarch Abraham; author unknown. A Jewish work, probably composed in Greek in Egypt around the 1st-2nd century AD, that may carry some later Christian touches. The archangel Michael is sent to tell Abraham that he must die; Abraham, famed for his hospitality, refuses to go, is taken on a heavenly tour of the judgment of souls, and at last meets Death. This is the longer of its two Greek recensions (20 chapters); the shorter follows as Version II. Not part of any church's canon.
