The Book of Concealed Mystery (Siphra Dtzenioutha) 4:14

H, He, at first was D, Daleth; but after it was impregnated by I, Yod (so that thence it might produce the form H—namely the I, Yod, placed at the left hand lower part of Daleth) it brought forth V, Vau. (That is, the mother impregnated by the father produced Microprosopus. But in the shape of the letter out of that minute I, Yod, which is hidden within the H, He, V, Vau, is said to be formed. Or from the upper horizontal line of the letter H, which is one V, Vau, and from the right-hand vertical line, which is another V, Vau, and from the inserted I, Yod, is made VIV, the full form of letter Vau.)

The Book of Concealed Mystery (Siphra Dtzenioutha) 4:15

Whence it is plain that in the letter H, He, are hidden the letters D, Daleth, V, Vau; and in IVD, Yod, is hidden H: whence are formed IHV. Therefore it appeareth that IVD in its own form containeth IHV, whensoever it is fully written by IVD, which are male and female (namely I, Yod, male, and V, Vau, D, Daleth, in the form, H, He, female); hence is compounded (the son, who is) V, Vau, and who overshadoweth his mother. (That is V placed after H, so that IHV may form the father, the mother, and Microprosopus.)

The Book of Concealed Mystery (Siphra Dtzenioutha) 4:16

(Therefore in the letter IVD, Yod, and in the name IHI are hidden two males and two females, which is symbolized in that saying, Gen. vi. 2: “And the sons of the Elohim beheld (the plural in its least form denoteth two) the daughters of men” (and this also). This explaineth on this account that which is written, Josh. ii. 1: “Two men as spies, saying” (hence is revealed the mystery of the two men). But how (is it proved that two females are understood) by the words, “Daughters of men?” Because it is written, 1 Kings iii. 16: “Then came there two women unto the king.”

The Book of Concealed Mystery (Siphra Dtzenioutha) 4:19

(Also we find these two equations in that saying) Exod. xiv. 15: “And the Lord said unto Moses (who is referred to the mother), Why criest thou unto Me?” (But also a cry is referred to the mother, just as a groan is to the beautiful path, and an exclamation to the kingdom. But) ALI, Eli, unto me (note this is the same as, “and unto I, Yod;” or the father). “Speak unto the children of Israel (the speech is the queen; Israel is the beautiful path) that they set forward.” Wherein note well the word VISOV, Vayesaau, “that they set forward,” wherein are VI masculine letters; SO feminine letters).

The Book of Concealed Mystery (Siphra Dtzenioutha) 5:5

For the name (Tetragrammaton) IHVH, Yod, He, Vau, He, includeth the name IH, Yah (which is of the father, and the name) ALHIM, Elohim (which here followeth in the text, and pertaineth unto the mother).

The Book of Concealed Mystery (Siphra Dtzenioutha) 5:11

Like as it is written, Num. xix. 17: “And shall pour upon him living waters in a vessel.” (But the life looketh towards the mother; and it) is (understood to be that path which is called) ALHIM ChIIM, Elohim Chiim, “the Elohim of life;” and the king of the universe (that is, the understanding. Whereunto belong also the following sayings:—) Ps. cxvi. v. 9: “I will walk before the Lord in the lands of life.” Also 1 Sam. 29: “And the soul of my Lord shall be bound in the quiver of life.” Also Gen. ii. 9: “And the tree of life in the midst of the garden.” (All these, I say, refer unto the understanding, from which the six members receive the influx. And to it also pertain the following names, namely, the name) IH, Yah (whensoever it is written in full with A in this manner:) IVD HA, Yod Ha (and containeth the number of the numeral powers of the letters of the Tetragrammaton, namely, 26; unto which also is referred that form of the name belonging unto the intelligence), AHII, Eheii (where in the place of the final He, Yod is put, as in a former instance. (See Chap. I. § 32.)

The Book of Concealed Mystery (Siphra Dtzenioutha) 5:15

And because it is written (in the same place) “And his days shall be à hundred and twenty years,” I, Yod, is either perfect (whensoever its singular parts exist in the form of decads) or imperfect (when they are in monads or units). When (therefore) Yod (is placed by itself) alone (it is understood to be perfect, because in itself it containeth) a hundred. (But if) two letters (are put, then are understood the ten units) twice reckoned; (hence are produced) the hundred and twenty years.

The Book of Concealed Mystery (Siphra Dtzenioutha) 5:16

Yod is alone whensoever he is manifested in Microprosopus (that is, when the lights of Macroprosopus descend into Him, then indeed the paths of the decads are increased, and this decad) is increased into ten thousands (by the paths joined with the four letters of the Tetragrammaton) of years. (But) hence (if it be conceived only according unto the power of Macroprosopus, it hath that position) which is written, Ps. cxxxix. 5: “And thou shalt place upon me thine hand:” KPKH, Khephakha. (Where this word KPKH, if it be written according to the usual custom KPK, Khephakh, yieldeth the number 120. But now by adding the paragogic H of the female, there is given the number 125, on account of the five severities.)

The Book of Concealed Mystery (Siphra Dtzenioutha) 5:42

(This is) the horn which receiveth the horn and the spirit, that it may restore the spirit of Yod He unto Yod He. (That is, when the spirit is to be given unto Microprosopus, his mother contributed as much, which is QRN, Qaran, “the horn,” the brilliancy, as the increase which he receiveth from the father.) And this is the horn of jubilee. And IVBL, Yobel, “jubilee,” is H, He (the first He of the Tetragrammaton); and He is the spirit rushing forth over all (because the mother is the world to come, when in the resurrection all things will receive the spirit); and all things shall return unto their place (like as in the jubilee, so in the world to come).

The Book of Concealed Mystery (Siphra Dtzenioutha) 5:43

For it is written, AHH, IHVH, ALHIM, Ahah Tetragrammaton Elohim! “Ah Tetragrammaton Elohim!” When the H, He, appeareth (first), and H, He (in the second place); then is Tetragrammaton called Elohim (like as a judge; because in the world to come there will be work for much strength. This is) the full name. And it is written, Isa. ii. 11: “And Tetragrammaton alone shall be exalted in that day.” When the one He is turned towards the other He, and Yod is taken away, then cometh vengeance into the universe; and except for that Adam who is called Tetragrammaton, the universe would not exist; but all things would be destroyed. Hence it is written: “And the Tetragrammaton alone,” &c.

The Greater Holy Assembly (Idra Rabba Qadisha) 34:801

“When therefore it is called Tetragrammaton, man is mentioned, with the Gate Tauara included, and those which are therein [otherwise, concerning the inferior worlds. And when it is taken away from the gate (that is, when the letters Vau and He are not joined hereunto, of which the latter denoteth the inferior gate), then is understood the Holy Name (by the Yod), and the Gate and those which are therein (by the He in the name IH). And this member is the Benignity, quo nomine tamen proprie vocatur orificium membri; neither is it called Benignity until I, Yod, orificii membri, is uncovered.

And come, behold, Abraham is not called perfect in that Benignity, until I, Yod, of the member is uncovered; but when that is uncovered he is called perfect.

The Greater Holy Assembly (Idra Rabba Qadisha) 40:974

Mishnah Shevuot 4:13

[If he said]: "I adjure you"; "I command you"; "I bind you"; they are liable. "By heaven and earth!", they are exempt. "By Alef Daleth"; "By Yod He"; "By God Almighty"; "By The Lord of Hosts; "By the Merciful and Gracious one"; "By the Long Suffering One"; "By the One Abounding in Kindness"; or by any of the substitutes [for the name], they are liable. He who blasphemes by any of them is liable, according to the words of Rabbi Meir. And the Sages exempt him. He who curses his father or mother by any of them is liable according to the words of Rabbi Meir. And the Sages exempt him. He who curses himself or his neighbor by any of them transgresses a negative precept. [If he said,] "May God smite you"; or "Yea, may God smite you"; this is the curse written in the Torah. "May [God] not smite you"; or "May he bless you"; Or "May he do good unto you [if you bear testimony for me]": Rabbi Meir makes [them] liable, and the Sages exempt [them].

The Babylonian Talmud

Babylonian Talmud Berakhot 9:271

Rab Nahman b. Rab Hisda expounded : What means that which is written, "Then the Lord God formed man" (Gen. ii. 7), the word wayyiser "and He formed" being spelt with two letters yod? The Holy One, blessed be He, created two impulses, one good and the other evil.

Babylonian Talmud Berakhot 9:272

Rab Nahman b. Isaac objected : Therefore since the word wayyiser is not mentioned in connection with the animal it has no evil impulse, and yet we see it injuring and biting and kicking ! Nay [the double yod is to be explained] according to the statement of R. Simeon b. Pazzi who said : Woe to me because of my Creator [yoseri], and woe to me because of my impulse [yisri].

Babylonian Talmud Berakhot 9:280

It is quite right according to him who says that [Eve was created from] a face ; that is what is written wayyiser "And He formed," spelt with a double yod. But according to him who said that it was from a tail, what means wayyiser?

Babylonian Talmud Sukkah 1:99

But why should we not derive it from the golden headplate (ציץ), as it was taught: The tzitz was in the shape of a plate of gold two finger-breadths broad and stretching from ear to ear, and upon it were engraved two lines, Yod and Heh above, and Kodesh [followed by a] Lamed below, and R. Eliezer son of R. Yose said, I saw it in Rome and it had Kodesh Ladonai on one line.

Babylonian Talmud Ta'anit 1:31

What is R. Judah's reason? It is as stated in the following Baraita: R. Judah b. Bathyra says: In prescribing the order of sacrifices for the second day, scripture says (Num., 29.18): "and their drink-offerings" (ונסכיהם), in the order for the sixth day (ib., 29.31), the expression is: "and its drink-offerings" (ונסכיה), while in the order for the seventh day (ib., 29.33) we read: "After their ordinance" (כמשפטם), thus obtaining the letters mem, yod, mem, which put together read mayim (מים = water). Here we have a biblical allusion to the institution of water libation.

Babylonian Talmud Ta'anit 3:74

R. Jose b. 'Abin used to attend the lectures of R. Jose of Yodḳart, later he left him and went over to R. 'Ashi.

Babylonian Talmud Ta'anit 3:75

One day he heard R. 'Ashi teaching in the name of Samuel: He that takes a fish out of the water on Sabbath is guilty of having desecrated the Sabbath (by killing) as soon as a piece (of the fish's body) as large as a sela' has become dry. To this statement R. Jose remarked that the dry spot must be between the fins. Said R. 'Ashi: Are you not aware of the fact that what you remarked was said by Jose b. 'Abin? "I am Jose b. 'Abin", he replied. "But were you not studying under R. Jose of Yodḳart?" "Yes, I was." "Why did you leave him and come here?" "How should a man who has no pity for his son and his daughter have any for me?" replied R. Jose b. 'Abin.

Babylonian Talmud Ta'anit 3:76

To what circumstance did he refer? He referred to the following event: One day R. Jose of Yodḳart had employed some laborers in the field. It became dark before R. Jose brought them something to eat. The laborers therefore complained to R. Jose's son that they were hungry. A fig-tree happened to be in the neighborhood, so the son of R. Jose turned to that tree saying, "Fig-tree, fig-tree! bring forth thy fruit, in order that the laborers of my father may eat." The tree immediately brought forth fruit and the laborers ate. In the meantime his father (R. Jose) arrived and, addressing the laborers, said, "Do not bear me a grudge, the reason I came late is because I was occupied by a matter of charity, and it is only now that I was able to come." They replied: "May the Merciful satisfy thy hunger as thy son has satisfied ours!" Said R. Jose, "What do you mean by that?" They told him what had happened, whereupon R. Jose said, "My son! Thou hast troubled thy Creator to make the fig-tree yield fruit before its time, so mayest thou be gathered in before thy time."

Babylonian Talmud Ta'anit 3:77

What was the incident with his daughter? It was the following: R. Jose of Yodḳart had a beautiful daughter. One day he noticed a man making a hole in the fence and gazing at her. R. Jose asked him why he did that, whereupon the man said, "If I had not the good fortune to marry her, may I not have at least the privilege of looking at her?" R. Jose then said: "Daughter, daughter! Thou art a cause of trouble to humanity, return to thy dust, in order that the people should not stumble on thy account".
