The Ethiopian Orthodox Bible

Books the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church keeps that other Bibles don't.

The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church has the largest biblical canon of any major church: 81 books in its standard (“narrow”) canon, and nine more in its “broader” canon. Its Old Testament includes 1 Enoch and Jubilees, which survive complete only in Geʿez, the ancient liturgical language of Ethiopia, because that church kept copying them long after they fell out of use everywhere else.

This collection gathers the books of the Ethiopian canon that this site carries beyond the 66 books of the King James Version: from the Old Testament, 1 Enoch, Jubilees, Ezra Sutuel (our 2 Esdras), Psalm 151, Tobit, Judith, Wisdom, Sirach, and Baruch; and from the broader canon, the Ethiopic Didascalia, the Statutes of the Apostles and the Apostolic Canons from the Ethiopic Sinodos and the Testament of Our Lord (Books I and II), both church-order texts and shelved with the church orders. Each book's home shelf is where it sits in the rest of the library; this page is the Ethiopian view across them.
