Babylonian Talmud Makkot

Babylonian Talmud Makkot: the Babylonian Gemara on Mishnah Makkot ("Lashes"), in the order Nezikin (Damages). False witnesses, the cities of refuge, and the penalty of lashes (Deuteronomy 19 and 25). The Babylonian Talmud (Talmud Bavli) was edited in the academies of Babylonia until about AD 500 or later and became the authoritative Talmud of Jewish law; it quotes each passage of the Mishnah (MISHNAH) and then discusses it (GEMARA), and is cited by folio, as on the page headings here (2a, 2b). It is rabbinic law and teaching, not scripture. English from the Sefaria Community Translation (anonymous, CC0); Hebrew and Aramaic from Wikisource's Vilna text.
