Pistis Sophia: A Third Book

The third section of the Askew Codex in Mead's 1921 English (chapters 102-125; see the First Book's introduction). Jesus tells the disciples what to proclaim and what they must ask of those who would receive the mysteries: to renounce the whole world, and to whom the mysteries of the Light are to be given. The disciples, above all Mary, ask how the soul of a righteous man who has not received the mysteries fares at death, how often a brother may be forgiven, how the baptisms forgive sins, and what happens to sinners who have received the mysteries and then fallen; Peter is tried and tests the compassion of the highest mysteries against that of men on earth. The text breaks off at a gap in the manuscript, marked in this edition as a "considerable lacuna". Not part of any church's canon.
