Pistis Sophia: A Fifth Book
The fifth section of the Askew Codex in Mead's 1921 English (chapters 136-143; see the First Book's introduction). The disciples gather round Jesus, who stands with them on the bank of the Ocean and makes an invocation in a long string of untranslated divine names, which the text interprets. He then describes the powers of the rulers of the spheres and of Yew, the great Overseer of the Light, and the orders of rulers with their incorruptible names, and gives the disciples a mystery of the forgiveness of sins: before an offering of fire, water, wine and blood they pray, in the same untranslated names, that the forgivers of sins may come. The text breaks off at a gap of eight leaves in the manuscript. The strings of divine names are given as Mead printed them; they belong to the ritual and are not translated. Not part of any church's canon.
