Testament of Abraham (Version II) 1

Pseudonymously attributed to the patriarch Abraham; author unknown. The shorter of the two Greek recensions of the Testament of Abraham (14 chapters), telling the same story of the archangel Michael sent to announce Abraham's death, his refusal to go, his heavenly tour of judgment, and his meeting with Death, in a more compact form. The Ante-Nicene Fathers edition prints chapter XII out of order, ahead of chapters IX-XI; it is set here in its numbered place after chapter XI. Not part of any church's canon.

1It came to pass, when the days of the death of Abraham drew near, that the Lord said to Michael: Arise and go to Abraham, my servant, and say to him, You shall depart from life, for lo! The days of your temporal life are fulfilled: so that he may set his house in order before he die.
