1FOR in the fortieth year of my life, I saw a vision on the Mount of Olives, on the east of Jerusalem, that the sun and the moon were standing still.
Ἐν γὰρ ἔἶτῷ τεσσαρακοστῷ ἔτει τῆς ζωῆς εἶδον ὃ ἂν τῷ ὄρει τοῦ Ἐλαιῶνοςϑ κατὰ ἀνατολὰς Ἱερουσαλήμ, ὁ πατὴρ πατρόςἿ μου ἔλεγεν ἡμῖν Προσδραμόντες ἕτει τεσσαρακοστῷς β-ἀρ, λέγει. δι συγκαμφθήσεσθε. συγκαλυφθήσεσθε Ἐκρατήσατε ἕκαστος κατὰ Γκαὶ πιάσαντος πάντες ται ὁ ἥλιος σελήνη. Ἐξδράμομεν πάντες ὁμοῦ Γκαὶδ Λευὶ ἐκράτησε τὸν ἥλιον ὁ Ἰούδας φθάσας τὴν σελήνην, καὶ ὑψώθησαν ἀμφότεροι σὺν αὐτοῖς... Καὶ ὄντος τοῦ Λευὶ ὁ ἥλιος, ἰδοὺ λοις Λευί, νέος Ἔτις ἐπιδίδωσιν αὐτῷ φοινίκων δώδεκα, καὶ Ἰούδας λαμπρὸς ὡς ἡ σελήνη καὶ Ἐ ἦσαν ὑπὸ γὰρ Ἵ τοὺς πόδας αὐτῶν δώδεκα ἀκτῖνες Καὶ προσδραἔλαβεν. μόντες δύο ὅτε Λευὶ δῦ καὶ Ἰούδας ἐκράτησαν αὐτούς ἐν
2And behold Isaac, the father of my father, said to us; Run and lay hold of them, each one according to his strength; and to him that seizeth them will the sun and moon belong.
Καὶ ἰδοὺ Ταῦρος ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς, ἔχων δύο κέρατα μεγάλα, δείσῳ. καὶ πτέρυγας ἀετοῦ ἐπὶ νώτου καὶ θέλοντες ἡμεῖς ὃ πιάσαιδϊ αὐτόν, οὐκ ἠδυνήθημεν. Ἐδλθὼν δὲ Ἰωσὴφ κατέλαβεν αὐτόν, καὶ συνανῆλθεν αὐτῷ εἰς τὸ ὕψος. λαχαῖοι ὃ, Καὶ εἶδον Ἐδτι ἤμην καὶ ἰδοὺ γραφὴ Ἐἁγία ὥζφθη ἡμῖν, λέγουσα
3And we all of us ran together, and Levi laid hold of the sun, and Judah outstripped the others and seized the moon, and they were both of them lifted up with them.
᾿Ασσύριοι Πέρσαι καῖοιλ. Χαλδαῖοι Σύροι κληρονομήσουσιν αἰχμαλωσίαν τὰ δώδεκα σκῆπτρα τοῦ Ἰσραήλ. μῆνας.
4And when Levi became as a sun, lo, a certain young man gave to him twelve branches of palm; and Judah was bright as the moon, and under their feet were twelve rays.
5And the two, Levi and Judah, ran, and laid hold of them.
ἘΚαὶ πάλιν; μετὰ ἡμέρας ἑπτὰ εἶδον Ἔδτι ὁ πατήρ πατέρα μου ᾿Ιακὼβ ἐν τῇ θαλάσσῃ ᾿Αμνείας, καὶ ἡμεῖς σὺν ἡμῶν Ἰ. αὐτῷϑ.
6And lo, a bull upon the earth, with two great horns, and an eagle's wings upon its back; and we wished to seize him, but could not.
Καὶ ἰδοὺ πλοῖον ἤρχετο ἁρμενίζον ἐκτὸς ναυτῶν καὶ κυβερνητῶν
7But Joseph came, and seized him, and ascended up with him on high.
ἐπεγέγραπτο τῷ πλοίῳ Ἔτι ἡμεῖς πλοῖον ᾿Ιακώβ.
8And I saw, for I was there, and behold a holy writing appeared to us, saying: Assyrians, Medes, Persians, Chaldeans, Syrians, shall possess in captivity the twelve tribes of Israel.
ἘΚαὶ λέγειδ ἡμῖν ὁ πατὴρ ἡμῶν υἱοὶ ἀνέλθωμενδ εἰς τὸ πλοῖον ἡμῶν. δὲ εἰσήλθομεν γίνεται χειμὼν σφοδρός καὶ λαῖλαψ ἀνέμου μεστὸν ἐκτὸς ναυτῶν. β-ῦσ, ἀναβῶμεν. καὶ ἀφίσταται ὁ πατὴρ ἀφ᾽ ἡμῶν, δ᾽ μεγάλου. κρατῶν Ἐτοὺς αὐχένας ἡμεῖς χειμαζόμενοι ἐπὶ τὸ πέλαγοςκαὶ ἐπληρώθη τὸ πλοῖον ἀκατίουυ τρικυμίαις περιρησσόμενον φεύγει. Ἕ συντρίβεσθαιδ᾽ αὐτόδδι,
9And again, after seven days, I saw our father Jacob standing by the sea of Jamnia, and we were with him.
Ἐ Ὁ δὲ Ἰωσὴφ ἐπὶ ἀκατίῳ ᾿χωριζόἐπορεύθη. ἡμεῖς δὲ διεχωρίσθημεν ἐπὶ σανίδων ἐννέα͵ Λευὶ δὲ καὶ δὲ καὶ Ἰούδας ἦσαν Ἐ ἐπὶ τὸ αὐτόδδ,
10And behold, there came a ship sailing by, without sailors or pilot; and there was written upon the ship, The Ship of Jacob.
Καὶ διεσπάρημεν ἡμεῖς ἐπὶ χάντες εἰς τὰ πέρατα ἕτῆς
11And our father said to us: Come, let us embark on our ship.
12And when he had gone on board, there arose a vehement storm, and a mighty tempest of wind; and our father, who was holding the helm, departed from us.
Ὁ δὲ Λευὶ δέκα, περιβαλλόμενος σάκκον ὃ ἐδέετο Ἐτοῦ Κυρίου
13And we, being tost with the tempest, were borne along over the sea; and the ship was filled with water, and was pounded by mighty waves, until it was broken up.
Ὡς δὲ ἐπαύσατο ὁ χειμών, τὸ σκάφος ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς Γῶσπερ᾽ Ἶ ἐν εἰρήνῃ.
14And Joseph fled away upon a little boat, and we were all divided upon nine planks, and Levi and Judah were together.
Καὶ ἰδοὺ ἦλθεν ὁ πατὴρ περὶ ἡμῶν καὶ πάντες ὁμοθυμαδὸν ἠγαλλιασάμεθαδι, πάντων ἡμῶν ἐδέετο. ἃ περιφερόμενον. περισπώμενον. φερόμενοι. ὦ φερόμενον. ἐν ἠγαλλιώμεθα, δύο ἐνύπνια εἶπον, τῷ πατρί καὶ
15And we were all scattered unto the ends of the earth. 16 Then Levi, girt about with sackcloth, prayed for us all unto the Lord.
ἃ, αὐτῶν, Ἐπολλὰ τοῦ Ἰσραὴλ ὑπομείναντος
17And when the storm ceased, the ship reached the land as it were in peace.
Τότε λέγει μοι ὃ πατήρ Πιστεύω ὅτι Ἰωσήφ ὁρῶ ἱ πάντοτε ὅτι Κύριος ἀριθμεῖ αὐτὸν μεθ᾽ ἡμῶν.
18And, lo, our father came, and we all rejoiced with one accord.
Καὶ κλαίων ἔλεγε οἴμοι; τέκνον ᾿Ιωσήφ, ζῆ καὶ βλέπω σε, καὶ σὺ οὐχ ὁρᾷς Ἰακὼβ τὸν τοῖς λόγοις τούτοις γὼ Ἐξ καιόμην τοῖς σπλάγχνοις τοὺς ἀδελφούς μου ἰδούξ, τέκνα μουδ, ὑπέδειξα ὑμῖν καιροὺς πάντα γενήσεται ἐν Ἰσραήλ.
19These two dreams I told to my father; and he said to me: These things must be fulfilled in their season, after that Israel hath endured many things.
20Then my father saith unto me: I believe God that Joseph liveth, for I see always that the Lord numbereth him with you.
Καὶ ὑμεῖς Ἰδού. ἐντείλασθε τοῖς τέκνοις ὑμῶν ἵνα ἑνοῦνται τῷ Λευὶ καὶ τῷ Ἰούδα. ῥά, μέγας καὶ ἀφίσταται ὁ πατὴρ ἡμῶν ἀφ᾽ ἡμῶν, μεγάλου. κρατῶν αὐχένας, ἡμεῖς χειμαζόμενοι ἐπὶ τὸ πέλαγος Ἐῤφερόμεθα, καὶ ἐπληρώθη τὸ πλοῖον Φέῦγει συντρίβεσθαι αὐτόδϑ,ι
21And he said, weeping: Ah me, my son Joseph, thou livest, though I behold thee not, and thou seest not Jacob that begat thee.
Ἔ Ὁ δὲ Ἰωσὴφ ἐπὶ ἀκατίῳ χοριζόἐπορεύθηϑέ. ἡμεῖς δὲ διεχωρίσθημεν ἐπὶ σανίδων ἐννέα͵ Λευὶ δὲ κὶ δὲ καὶ Ἰούδας ἦσαν ἐπὶ τὸ αὐτό. Καὶ διεσπάρημεν ἡμεῖς ἐπὶ πάντες εἰς τὰ πέρατα γῆς,
22He caused me also, therefore, to weep by these words, and I burned in my heart to declare that Joseph had been sold, but I feared my brethren.
Ὁ δὲ Λευὶ περιβαλλόμενος σάκκον Ἐτοῦ Κυρίουδ. Ὡς δὲ ἐπαύσατο ὁ χειμών, Ἐξφθασε τὸ σκάφος ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς πίροτα; ἴῶώσπερ᾽ Ἶ ἐν εἰρήνῃ.
23And lo! my children, I have shown unto you the last times, how everything shall come to pass in Israel.
Καὶ ἰδοὺ ἦλθεν. ὁ πατὴρ περὶ ἡμῶν καὶ πάντες ὁμοθυμαδὸν ἠγαλλιασάμεθαδ,, ἡμῶν ἐδέετο, ὦ περιφερόμενον. περισπώμενον. φερόμενοι. ἃ φερόμενον. ἐν ἡγαλλιώμεθα. ᾿ τὰ δύο ἐνύπνια εἶπον τῷ πατρί καὶ εἶπέ Δεῖ ταῦτα πληρωθῆναιδ κατὰ καιροὺς αὐτῶν, Ἐπολλὰ τοῦ Ἰσραὴλ ὑπομείναντος. λέγει μοι ὃ πατήρ Πιστεύω τῷ θεῷ ὅτι ἐπὶ Ἰωσήφ ὁρῶ ᾿ πάντοτε ὅτι Κύριος ἀριθμεῖ ᾿ αὐτὸν μεθ᾽ ἡμῶν.
24Do ye also, therefore, charge your children that they be united to Levi and to Judah; for through them shall salvation arise unto Israel, and in them shall Jacob be blessed.
Καὶ κλαίων ἐλέγε τέκνον ᾿Ιωσήφ, ἴῃ᾽, καὶ Ἐοὺ βλέπω Ἐ καὶ σὺ οὐχδ ὁρᾷς Ἰακὼβ τὸν γεννήσαντάσεε Ἐποίησε οὖν καὶ ἐμὲ δακρῦσαι ἐν τέκνον τοῖς λόγοις τούτοις Ἐ Ἐγὼ Ἐξ καιόμην τοῖς σπλάγχνοις μου ἀναγγεῖλαι ὅτι ἐφοτοὺς ἀδελφούς ἰδούξ, τέκνα ὑπέδειξα ὑμῖν καιροὺς ἐσχάτους Τὅτι πάντα γενήσεται ἐν Ἰσραήλ.
25For through their tribes shall God appear dwelling among men on earth, to save the race of Israel, and to gather together the righteous from amongst the Gentiles.
Καὶ ὑμεῖς οὖν ἐντείλασθε τοῖς τέκνοις ὑμῶν ἵνα ἑνοῦνται τῷ Λευὶ καὶ τῷϊ Ἰούδα. Διὰ γὰρ ᾿Ιούδα ἀνατελεῖ ἡ σωτηρία τῷ Ἰσραὴλ καὶ ἐν Ταὐτῷ εὐλογηθήσεται Ἰακώβ. Β᾽
26If ye work that which is good, my children, both men and angels shall bless you; and God shall be glorified among the Gentiles through you, and the devil shall flee from you, and the wild beasts shall fear you, and the Lord shall love you, and the angels shall cleave to you.
27As a man who has trained a child well is kept in kindly remembrance; so also for a good work there is a good remembrance before God.
Διὰδ σκήπτρου αὐτοῦ ὀφθήσεται Θεὸς κατοικῶν διὰ γάρ. ἐν ἀνθρώποις ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς, τοῦ σῶσαι γένος τοῦ ᾿Ισραήλ, καὶ ἐπισυνάξει δικαίους ἐκ τῶν ἐθνῶν.
28But him that doeth not that which is good, both angels and men shall curse, and God shall be dishonoured among the Gentiles through him, and the devil shall make him as his own peculiar instrument, and every wild beast shall master him, and the Lord shall hate him.
Ἐ Ἐὰν Γοῦν καὶ δμεῖς ξργάσησθε τὸ καλόν, εὐλογήσουσιν ὑμᾶς ἄνθρωποι καὶ οἱ ἄγγελοι καὶ δ᾽ Θεὸς δοξασθήσεται ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν ὑμῶν, καὶ ὁ διάβολος φεύξεται ἀφ᾽ ὑμῶν, καλόν, τὰ θηρία φοβηθήσονται ὑμᾶς ἃς τέκνα Ἑ αἱ ὁ Κύριος ἀγαπήσει ὑμᾶς καὶ ἄγγελοι ἀνθέξονται ὑμῶν, ἀγαθήν.
29For the commandments of the law are twofold, and through prudence must they be fulfilled.
᾿ Ὡς ἄν τις τέκνον
30For there is a season for a man to embrace his wife, and a season to abstain therefrom for his prayer.
ἐκθρέψῃ καλῶς μνείαν ἔχεε καλήνδὅ,͵ οὕτως καὶ ἐπὶ τοῦ καλοῦ ἔργου μνήμη παρὰ Θεοῦ ἀγαθή.
31So, then, there are two commandments; and, unless they be done in due order, they bring very great sin upon men.
Τὸν δὲ μὴ Ἐποιοῦντα τὸ καλόν, καταρά σεται αὐτὸν καὶ ἄγγελοι καὶ ἄνθρωποι, ὁ Θεὸς ἀδοξήσει ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν δὲ αὐτοῦ δ΄ διάβολος οἰκειοῦται ἕ αὐτὸν ὡς ἴδιον καὶ πᾶν θηρίον κατακυριεύσει αὐτῷ ὃ αὐτοῦ. καὶ ὁ Κύριος μισήσει αὐτόν. Ηρα μὰ
32So also is it with the other commandments.
Καὶ γὰρ Ἷ αἱ ἐντολαὶ τοῦ νόμου διπλαῖ εἰσιν Γκαὶ μετὰ τέχνης πληροῦνται ὅθ,
33Be ye therefore wise in God, my children, and prudent, understanding the order of His commandments, and the laws of every word, that the Lord may love you,
34And when he had charged them with many such words, he exhorted them that they should remove his bones to Hebron, and that they should bury him with his fathers.
Καιρὸς συνουσίας δ᾽ γυναικός καὶ καιρὸς ἐγκρατείας ὃ προσευχὴν παρέχου, δύο τοῦ Θεοῦ εἰσι καὶ εἰ μὴ ἐγένοντο ἐν τῇ τάξει αὐτῶν ἁμαρτίαν Ἐ μεγίστην παρεῖχον τοῖς ἀνθρώποιφ᾽ ταν τὸ αὐτὸδδ καὶ Ῥξπὶ τῶν λοιπῶν ἐντολῶν ἐστιδθ, Γίνεσθε οὖν σοφοὶ ἐν θεῷ, τέκνα καὶ φρόνιμοι, ἰδόντες σοφοὶ ἐν τάξιν ἐντολῶν αὐτοῦ καὶ θεσμοὺς παντὸς πράγματος ὅπως ὑμᾶς ὁ Κύριος εἰδότες. τοῖς μὴ πρεπόντως ἀλλὰ καταφρονητικῶς ταῦτα πράττουσιν οὕτως δέ ἐστι. πολλὰϊ τοιαῦτα ἐντειλάμενον αὐτοῖς παρεκάλεσεν ἵνα μετακομίσωσιϑ τὰ ὀστᾶ αὐτοῦ Χεβρών, καὶ θάψωσι αὐτὸν μετὰ τῶν πατέρων αὐτοῦ.
35And when he had eaten and drunken with a merry heart, he covered his face and died.
Καὶΐ φαγὼν καὶ πιὼν ἐν ἱλαρότητι ψυχῆςϑ συξεκάλύψε τὸ πρόσωπον καὶ ἀπέθανε.
36And his sons did according to all that Naphtali their Father had commanded them.
Καὶ ἐποίησαν υἱοὶ αὐτοῦ πάντα ἐνετείλατο αὐτοῖς Νεφθαλεὶμ ὁ πατὴρ αὐτῶν,
