Babylonian Talmud Ta'anit

Babylonian Talmud Ta'anit: the Babylonian Gemara on Mishnah Ta'anit ("Fasts"), in the order Mo'ed (Appointed Times). Public fasts declared for rain and in times of trouble, the priestly watches, and the fifteenth of Av. The Babylonian Talmud (Talmud Bavli) was edited in the academies of Babylonia until about AD 500 or later and became the authoritative Talmud of Jewish law; it quotes each passage of the Mishnah (MISHNAH) and then discusses it (GEMARA), and is cited by folio, as on the page headings here (2a, 2b). It is rabbinic law and teaching, not scripture. English and Hebrew/Aramaic by Henry Malter, The Treatise Ta'anit of the Babylonian Talmud (Jewish Publication Society, 1928), public domain, transcribed from the page scans. Malter's Hebrew is his own critical text, edited from the manuscripts and early printings, so it differs in places from the usual (Vilna) text; he prints each chapter's Mishnah in full first and then its Gemara, and his notes are not reproduced.
