My LORD’s BibleTestament of Judah 3
1AND now I command you, my children, hearken to Judah your father, and keep my sayings to perform all the ordinances of the Lord, and to obey the commands of God.
ἐντέλλομαι ὑμῖν, τέκνα ἀκούσατε δι μη τοὶ ὨΙούδαϊ τοῦ πατρὸς ὑμῶν καὶ φυλάξασθεϑ τοὺς λόγους μου διαβου. τοῦ ποιεῖν πάνταϑ τὰ δικαιώματα Κυρίουϊ καὶ ὑπακούειν ἐντολὰς ὃ Θεοῦ.
2And walk not after your lusts, nor in the imaginations of your thoughts in haughtiness of heart; and glory not in the deeds and strength of your youth, for this also is evil in the eyes of the Lord.
Καὶ μὴ πονηρεύεσθε ὀπίσω τῶν ἐπιἐν ὑπερηθυμιῶν ὑμῶν ὑπερηφανείᾳ καρδίας καὶ μὴ καυχᾶσθε ἐν μου ξργοις καὶ ἰσχύι τῆς νεότητος ὑμῶν ὅτι ἢ γε τοῦτο πονηὑμῶν. ρὸν ἐνώπιον Κυρίου ἐστί,
3Since I also gloried that in wars no comely woman's face ever enticed me, and reproved Reuben my brother concerning Bilhah, the wife of my father, the spirits of jealousy and of fornication arrayed themselves against me, until I lay with Bathshua the Canaanite, and Tamar, who was espoused to my sons.
4For I said to my father-in-law: I will take counsel with my father, and so will I take thy daughter.
Ἐπειδὴ κἀγὼ ἴ ἐγκαυχησάμενος ὅτι πολέμοις οὐκ Οἱ ὑπήν πρόσωπον ἔἜγυναικὸς εὐμόρφου καὶ ὠνείδιῶν Ῥουβὶμ ἐῶ ρῆθς ἀδελφόν περὶ Βάλλας γυναικὸς τοῦδ πατρός πον. μου, καὶ τὸ πνεῦμα ζήλου καὶ τῆς πορνείας παρετάἕως ἐσυνετέλεσα εἰς ᾿Ανᾶν τὴν ΧανανανίΩς την καὶ εἰς Θαμὰρ τὴν νύμφην μου.
5And he was unwilling but he showed me a boundless store of gold in his daughter's behalf; for be was a king.
ἘΠΈλεγον Βησονὲ γὰρ τῷ πενθερῷ μου ὅτι συμβουλεύσομαι τῷ πατρί καὶ οὕτως τὴν θυγατέρα σου δὲ οὐκ ἤθελεν, ἀλλ᾽ δδ ἔδειξέδδ μοι Ἐ εἰς ὄνομα τῆς θυγατρὸς αὐτοῦ Ἔχρυσοῦ πλῆθος ἄπειρον
6And he adorned her with gold and pearls, and caused her to pour out wine for us at the feast with the beauty of women.
7And the wine turned aside my eyes, and pleasure blinded my heart.
Ἐβασιλεὺς γὰρ ἦν ἐκόσμησεν Και. Βυσονὲ τὴν καὶ ἔλαβον αὐτὴν γυναῖκα ὁμοίως. συνετέλεσα λήψομαι. καὶ ἔλεγον τῷ μου Συμβουλεύσομαι συμβουπενθερός μου καὶ εἶπέ μοι περὶ τῆς θυγατρὸς αὐτοῦ, οὐκ εἶκον αὐτῷ Βουλεύσομαε χρυσίον ἄπειρον πλῆθος͵ χρυσίον πλ. ἄπειρον. Αὐτὰ ἃ κοσμήσας δὲ καὶ αὐτήν͵ καὶ τὴν θυγατέρα αὐτοῦ Βηρσονὲ ἐκόσμησε. μου ὀφθαλμούς καὶ ἡμαύρωσέ μου τὴν κάλλει καρδίαν ἡδονή
8And I became enamoured of and I lay with her, and transgressed the commandment of the Lord and the commandment of my fathers, and I took her to wife.
Καὶ ἐρασθεὶς αὐτῆς γᾷ, πεσα εἰς αὐτήν, καὶ παρέβην ἐντολὴν Κυρίου καὶ τὴν δ᾽ ἐντολὴν Ἐτοῦ πατρός μου, καὶ ἔλαβον αὐτὴν δ᾽ εἰς γυναῖκαι ἐντῇ Βδ. Καὶ Ἐδ Κύριος ἀνταπέδωκέ κατὰ τὸ διαβούλιον τῆς ἡδονῇ. ψυχῆς δδ μου ὅτι οὐκ ηὐφράνθην τοῖς τέκνοις αὐτῆς
9And the Lord rewarded me according to the imagination of my heart, inasmuch as I had no joy in her children.
10And now, my children, I say unto you, be not drunk with wine; for wine turneth the mind away from, the truth, and inspires the passion of lust, and leadeth the eyes into error.
Καὶ νῦν λέγω, τέκνα μὴ μεθύσκεσθε ὃ οἴνῳ, β-α,Ἀ,ι ὅτι οἶνος διαστρέφειδ τὸν νοῦν ἀπὸ τῆς ἀληθείας καὶ καρδίας. ἐμβάλλει ὀργὴν ἐπιθυμίας, καὶ ὁδηγεῖ εἰς πλάνην τοὺς ὀφθαλμούς ὃ.
11For the spirit of fornication hath wine as a minister to give pleasure to the mind; for these two also take away the mind of man.
Τὸ γὰρ πνεῦμα τῆς πορνείας τὸν οἶνον ὡς διάκονον ἔχει πρὸς τὴν ἡδονὴν νοός
12For if a man drink wine to drunkenness, it disturbeth the mind with filthy thoughts leading to fornication, and heateth the body to carnal union; and if the occasion of the lust be present, he worketh the sin, and is not ashamed.
13Such is the inebriated man, my children; for he who is drunken reverenceth no man.
ὅτι καίγε μου ἦσαν ἐκ Βηρσονέ δύο ταῦτα ἀφιστῶσι τὴν διάνοιαν δ᾽ τοῦ ἀνθρώπου.
14For, lo, it made me also to err, so that I was not ashamed of the multitude in the city, in that before the eyes of all I turned aside unto Tamar, and I wrought a great sin, and I uncovered the covering of my sons' shame.
Ἐὰν πίῃς οἶνον εἰς μέθην, ἐν ῥυπαροῖς κρο΄ συνταράσσειἷ νοῦν σου, πορνείαν ἐκθερἢ τις τὸ σῶμα πρὸς ἡδονήν, πράσσει τὴν ἁμαρτίαν καὶ οὐκ αἰσχύνεται, ἐστιν ὃ νοῦν εἰς πορνεΐαν τέκνα μου, ὅτι ὁ μεθύων οὐκ αἰδεῖται οὐδένα καὶ ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς πάντων ἐξέκλινα πρὸς τὴν οὐκ αἰσχύνθην τὴν τοῦδ Θεοῦ, καὶ ἔλαβον γυναῖκα ἐπιθυμίαν Χαναναίαν. πολλῆς χρήζει ὁ πίνων αἴτιον. οἶνον, αὕτη ἐστὶν ἣ ἡ σύνεσις τῆς ἐ τό. ὅτι οὐκ ἠδέσθην πλῆθος λαοῦ, οὐδὲ αἰσχύνθην ταῦτα πεποίηκεν ὁ οἶνος καθὼς καὶ τὸ πρότερον ἡνίκα ἔλαβον γυναῖκα ἄνευ βουλῆς τοῦ πατρός διὰ τοῦτο τοίνυν παραγγέλλω ὑμᾶς, τέκνα ἵνα μὴ καὶ παρέλθῃ τὸν ὅρον Ἶ, ἐμβάλλει εἰς τὸν νοῦν αὐτοῦ δῦ τὸ πνεῦμα τῆς πλάνης, καὶ ποιεῖ Ἐτὸν μέθυσον αἰσχρορημονεῖν βασιλεύκαὶ δὶ παρανομεῖν καὶ μὴ ὅ αἰσχύνεσθαι Ἑἀλλὰ καυχᾶσθαι τῇ ἀτιμίᾳδε νομίζειν εἶναι καλόν ὅδ,
15After I had drunk wine I reverenced not the commandment of God, and I took a woman of Canaan to wife.
16For much discretion needeth the man who drinketh wine, my children; and herein is discretion in drinking wine, a man may drink so long as he preserveth modesty.
Ὁ πορνεύων οὐκ αἰσθάνεταιξ καὶ ἀδοξῶν ὃ βασι. οὐκ αἰσχύνεται.
17But if he go beyond this limit the spirit of deceit attacketh his mind, and it maketh the drunkard to talk filthily, and to transgress and not to be ashamed, but even to glory in his shame, and to account himself honourable.
ἘΚὰν τις Ἐβασιλεύς ἐστι καὶ πορνεύει, γυμνοῦται τῆς βασιλείας Ἐδουλωθεὶς τῇ πορνείᾳ ὡς β-ἃ, κἀγὼ ἔπαθον Ἷ͵
18He that committeth fornication is not aware when he suffers loss, and is not ashamed when put to dishonour.
Δέδωκαδ τὴν ῥάβδον τουτέστινϑ, γυμνωτὸ στήριγμα τῆς ἐμῆς φυλῆς καὶ τὴν ζώνην μου, τουτέστιν ἰδ, τὴν δύναμιν, καὶ τὸ διάδημα τουτέστιν, τὴν δόξαν τῆς βασιλείας μουδ,
19For even though a man be a king and commit fornication, he is stripped of his kingship by becoming the slave of fornication, as I myself also suffered.
20For I gave my staff, that is, the stay of my tribe; and my girdle, that is, my power; and my diadem, that is, the glory of my kingdom.
Καίγε μετανοήσας ἐπὶ τούτοις οἶνον καὶ κρέαϊδ ἔφαγον. ἕως γήρους μου, καὶ Ἐπ πᾶσαν δύξαν. εὐφροσύνην οὐκ εἶδον.
21And indeed I repented of these things; wine and flesh I eat not until my old age, nor did I behold any joy.
Καὶ ἔδειξέ μοι ὁ ἄγγελος τοῦ μενος τῆς βασιλείας οὐκ ἐξέρχεται. βασιλεύσῃ πορνεύει γυμνούμενος καὶ ἐκ θεοῦ ὅτι Ἐκἂν βασιλέως κἂν κατακυριεύσωσιν γυναῖκες Γοὺκ ἐστὶν ἐν αὐτοῖς προκοπὴ ζωῆς μὸν τοῦ ἘΤοῦ μὲν βασιλέως αἴρουσιν τὴν δόξαν ἀνδρείουϑξ αἰῶνος. τὴν δύναμιν, τοῦ δὲ πτωχοϑδὺ τὸδέ Ἐτῆς πτωχείας ἐλάχιστον στήριγμα. Φυλάξασθεϊ οὖν, τέκνα τὸν ὅρον τοῦ οἴνου φόβον Ἐξστιν ἐν αὐτῷ τέσσαραῦ πνεύματα πονηράδ ἐπιθυμίας, Θεοῦ αυρώσεως, ἀσωτίας καὶ αἰσχροκερδίας ἴ.
22And the angel of God showed me that for ever do women bear rule over king and beggar alike.
23And from the king they take away his glory, and from the valiant man his might, and from the beggar even that little which is the stay of his poverty.
᾿Εὰν πίνητεϑ οἶνον ἐστὲ αἰδούμενοι μετὰ φόβου θεοῦ καί. γὰρ ἐν εὐφροσύνῃ ἀποστῇ ὁ τοῦ Θεοῦ φόβος λοιπὸν γίνεται τί δὲ Ἐμέθη, καὶ παρεισέρχεται ἡ ἀναισχυντία
24Observe, therefore, my children, the right limit in wine; for there are in it four evil spirits--of lust, of hot desire, of profligacy, of filthy lucre.
ἘΕὶ δὲ λέγο;; θέλετε σωφρόνως ζῆσαι, μηδ᾽ ὅλως τοῦ οἴνου ἐφάπτεσθε ἵνα μὴ ἀνδρεῖος κἂν πτωχὸς ὁ τῷ τοιούτῳ ἁλισκόμενος πάθει γυναῖκες κατακυριεύσωσι αὐτόν, Α΄ Ὁ γυναῖκες κατακυριεύσουσι κἂν βασιλέων κἂν πτωχῶν, ἐὰν βασιλέων ἁμαρτάνητεἶδ ἐν λόγοις ὕβρεως καὶ καὶ συκοφαντίαις καὶ παραβάσεσι ἐντολῶν
25If ye drink wine in gladness, be ye modest in the fear of God.
26For if in your gladness the fear of God departeth, then drunkenness ariseth and shamelessness stealeth in.
Θεοῦ καὶ ἀπολεῖσθε -ἃ,Α. Γρὺκ ἐν καιρῷ ὑμῶν.
27But if ye would live soberly do not touch wine at all, lest ye sin in words of outrage, and in fightings and slanders, and transgressions of the commandments of God, and ye perish before your time.
Καίγε μυστήρια Θεοῦ καὶ ἀνθρώΧαν. πων ἀποκαλύπτει ὁ οἶνος, ὧς κἀγὼ Ἐτὰς ἐντολὰς τοῦδ Θεδῦ, καὶ μυστήρια ᾿Ιακὼβ τοῦ πατρός μου τῇ Καὶ Χανανίτιδι εἶπεν Ἐ Θεὸς μὴ ἀποκαλύψαι νῦν ἐντέλλομαιϊ ὑμῖν; τέκνα μου, μὴ ταραχῆς ἀγαπᾶν ἀργύριον μηδὲ ἐπιβλέψαι εἰς κάλλος ὅ γυναικῶν αἴτιος ὅτ, κἀγὼδ διὰ χρυσίον καὶ εὐμορφίαν ἐπλανήθην εἰς τὴν Χαναναίαν. Καὶ ὅτι διὰ τὰ δύο ταῦτα ἔσται. τὸ γένος ἀπώλειαν πορνείας ἐν ὅτι καὶ σοφοὺς ἄνδρας τῶν υἱῶν ἀλλοιώσουσιν καὶ πονηρίᾳ. βασιλείαν ᾿Ιούδα σμικρυνθῆναι ποιήσουσιν ἣν ἔδωκέ μοι Κύριος ἐν ὑπακοῇ πατρός μου οὖν ἐλύπησα ποτε παρελύπησα ᾿Ιακὼβ τὸν τὰ ὅτι πάντα τόν Ἐδσα μοι ἔλεγεν ἐποίουν
28Moreover, wine revealeth the mysteries of God and men, even as I also revealed the commandments of God and the mysteries of Jacob my father to the Canaanitish woman Bathshua, which God bade me not to reveal.
29And wine is a cause both of war and confusion.
Καὶ ὁ λόγον μου εὐλόγησέ βασιλεύειν Ἰσραήλ προς ἢ Ιακὼβ εὐλόγησέ με οὕτως
30And now, I command you, my children, not to love money, nor to gaze upon the beauty of women; because for the sake of money and beauty I was led astray to Bathshua the Canaanite.
Καὶ δ᾽ ἐγὼ οἷδα κα ὅτι ἐξ ἐμοῦ στήσεται ἕ τὸ βασίλειον Ἰσαάκ. ἔγνωκα ὅσα Ἐ κακὰ ἐνϑ ἴγαῖςἷ τό αι ἐσχάταις ἡμέραις.
31For I know that because of these two things shall my race fall into wickedness.
32For even wise men among my sons shall they mar, and shall cause the kingdom of Judah to be diminished, which the Lord gave me because of my obedience to my father.
Φυλάξασθεδ οὖν, τέκνα μου, τοῦ τῆς πορνείας καὶ τῆς φιλαργυρίας, καὶ ἀκούσατε ἾἸούδα τοῦ πατρὸς ὑμῶν ὅτι β--δᾶ ταῦτα ἀφιστᾷ ᾿ Ἐτῷ νόμῳ τοῦ θεοῦ, καὶ τυφλοῖ τὸ διαβούλιον τῆς ψυχῆς, ἀνέγνων βλοις Ἐνὼχ τοῦ δικαίου. τοῦ πατρός πε ξλύπησα Ἰακὼβ τὸν πατέρα μου λόγοις διὰ τοῦτο ἐκληρονόμησα τὴν εὐλογίαν ᾿Αβραμ δά, τοδα Ἰσαάκ. τοσοῦτον γὰρ καί, ἡ εὐλογία. καὶ ὑπερηφάνειαν ἐκδιδάσκει καὶ οὐκ ἀφίειδ ἄνδρα ἐλεῆσαι Ἷ τὸν πλησίον αὐτοῦ.
33For I never caused grief to Jacob, my father; for all things whatsoever he commanded I did.
Στερίσκει τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ ἀπὸ πάσης ἀγαθότητος καὶ συνέχει αὐτὸν ἐν πόνοις καὶ μόχθοις ὕπνον ἐκδιώκει ἀπ᾽ αὐτοῦ καταδαπανῃ τὰς σάρκας αὐτοῦ. δοον
34And Isaac, the father of my father, blessed me to be king in Israel, and Jacob further blessed me in like manner.
ἘΘυσίας Θεοῦ ἐμποδίζει αὐτοῦ. καὶ εὐλογίαν Θεοῦ οὐ μνημονεύει
35And I know that from me shall the kingdom be established.
36And I know what evils ye will do in the last days.
Ἐ Προφήτου λαλοῦντος οὐκ καὶ λόγους εὐσεβείας προσοχθίζειδ.
37Beware, therefore, my children, of fornication, and the love of money, and hearken to Judah your father.
γὰρ πάθεσιν ἐναντίοις δουλεύει Θεῷ ὑπακοῦσαι ὃ οὐ δύναται Ἷ, ὅτι ἐτύφλωσεν τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐν ἡμέρᾳ ὡς ἐν νυκτὶ πορεύεται. εἴδωλα. Ὑέκνα μου, ἡ φιλαργυρία εἰδωλολατρείαν ἐναντία τῶν ἐντολῶν τοῦ θεοῦ ἐντολῆς θεοῦ ἃ ὁ δουλεύων͵ δύο γὰρ πάθη ἀνίατα ἃ ἀποτυφλοῦσι. ὁδηγεῖδ, ὅτι ἐν πλάνῃ ἀργυρίου τοὺς μὴ ὄντας θεοὺς ὀνομάζουσιν, καὶ ποιεῖ Ἐτὸν ἔχοντα αὐτὴν εἰς ἔκστασιν ἐμπεσεῖν.
38For these things withdraw au from the law of God, and blind the inclination of the soul, and teach arrogance, and suffer not a man to have compassion upon his neighbour.
39They rob his soul of all goodness, and oppress him with toils and troubles, and drive away sleep from him, and devour his flesh.
Διὰ τὸ ἀργύριον ἐγὼ τέκνα μου ἀπόλωλα εἰ μὴ ἡ μετάνοιά μουὶδ καὶ ἡ ταπείνωσίς ὃ καὶ τοῦ πατρός μου Τσυνέδραμον πα εἶχον ἀποθανεῖν. ὁ Θεὸς τῶν πα μῶν τῆς μου Ἐλλέησέ μεῖ ὅτι ἐν ἀγνωσίᾳ Γροῦτο ἐποίησα. ψυχῆς
40And he hindereth the sacrifices of God; and he remembereth not the blessing of God, he hearkeneth not to a prophet when he speaketh, and resenteth the words of godliness.
Ἐτύφλωσεν με ὁ ἄρχων τῆς πλάνης καὶ ἠγνόησα ἄνθρωπος καὶ σὰρξ ἁμαρτίαις φθαρείς εὐχαὶ ἐπέγνων τὴν ἐμαυτοῦ ἀσθένειαν, νομίζων ὃ ἀκαταμάχητος εἶναι. μων
41For he is a slave to two contrary passions, and cannot obey God, because they have blinded his soul, and he walketh in the day as in the night.
42My children, the love of money leadeth to idolatry; because, when led astray through money, men name as gods those who are not gods, and it causeth him who hath it to fall into madness.
Γνῶτεϊ οὖν, τέκνα μου, ὅτι δύο πνεύματα σχολο καὶ ἐλεήτῷ ἀνθρώπῳ, τῆς ἀληθείας καὶ ἔἘτὸ τῆς δι τον τῆς πλάνης Ἐμέσον ἐστὶ συνειδήσεωςῖ,
43For the sake of money I lost my children, and had not my repentance, and my humiliation, and the prayers of my father been accepted, I should have died childless.
Καὶ ἐν ἕκαστον αὐτῶν γνωρίζει ὁ Κύριος.
44But the God of my fathers had mercy on me, because I did it in ignorance.
45And the prince of deceit blinded me, and I sinned as a man and as flesh, being corrupted through sins; and I learnt my own weakness while thinking myself invincible.
Καὶ οὐκ ἐστὶ καιρὸς ὃς ὃ δυνήσεται λαθεῖν αὐτὸν τὰ ἔργα τῶν ἀνθρώπων, ὅτι καὶ τὰ στήθη τῶν ὀστέων αὐτῶν παρὰ Κυρίου γέγραπται.
46Know, therefore, my children, that two spirits wait upon man-the spirit of truth and the spirit of deceit.
Καὶ μέσον ἐστὶ τῆς συνέσεως νοός, οὗ ἐὰν θέλῃ, κλῖναι,
47And in the midst is the spirit of understanding of the mind, to which it belongeth to turn whithersoever it will.
49And there is no time at which the works of men can be hid; for on the heart itself have they been written down before the Lord.
ἘΚαίγε τὰ τῆς ἀληθείας καὶ τὰ τῆς πλάνης γέγραπται ἐπὶ τὸ στῆθος τοῦ ἀνθρώπου καὶ ἂν ἕκαστον αὐτῶν γνωρίζει Κύριος
50And the spirit of truth testifieth all things, and accuseth all; and the sinner is burnt up by his own heart, and cannot raise his face to the judge.
Καὶ οὐκ ἐστὶ καιρὸς ἐν ᾧ Ἐδυνήσεται λαθεῖν ἀνθρώπων ἔργα, ὅτι ἐν Τστήθει ὀστέων ἐγγέγραπταιῖδ Κυρίου, τοῖα πνεῦμα τῆς ἀληθείας κατηγορεῖ πάντων ἐμπεπύρισται ὁ ἁμαρτωλὸς ἐκ τῆς ἰδίας καρδίας Ἷ, καὶ πρόσωπον ἵ πρὸς τὸν κριτὴν οὐ δύναται
