1THE Copy of the Testament of Reuben, even the commands which he gave his sons before he died in the hundred and twenty-fifth year of his life.
Διαθήκη Ῥουβὴμ τοῦ πρωτοτόκου υἱοῦ Ἰακὼβ καὶ Λείας.
2Two years after the death of Joseph his brother, when Reuben fell ill, his sons and his sons' sons were gathered together to visit him.
3And he said to them: My children, behold I am dying, and go the way of my fathers.
᾿Αντίγραφον᾽ διαθήκης Ῥουβήμξ, ὅσα ἐνετείλατο τοῖς υἱοῖς αὐτοῦ, πρὶν ἀποθανεῖν αὐτόν, Ἐὲν ἑκατοστῷ εἰκοστῷ πέμπτῳ ἔτει τῆς ωῆς αὐτοῦ.
4And seeing there Judah, and Gad, and Asher, his brethren, he said to them: Raise me up that I may tell to my brethren and to my children what things I have hidden in my heart, for behold now at length I am passing away.
ἘΜετὰ ἔτη δύο τῆς τελευτῆς Ιωσὴφ ἀδελφοῦ αὐτοῦ ἀρρωστήἃ. σαντος ῬουβήμἾ, συνήχθησαν. Ἐξπισκέψασθαι αὐτὸν ᾿Ιωσήφ. υἱοὶ αὐτοῦ καὶ υἱοὶ τῶν υἱῶν αὐτοῦ. εἶπεν αὐτοῖς. μου, ἘΪδοὺ ἐγὼ ἀποσυνθῶ τῶν υἱῶν τοῦ ᾿Ιακώβ, ὃ. τῶν υἱῶν ᾿Ιακὼβ ἤγουν τῶν δώδεκα παρὶ ἐννοιῶν Ῥονβὴμ πρωτότοκος ᾿Ιακὼβ καὶ Δίας ὃ. Ρουβὴμ θνήσκω καὶ πορεύομαι ὁδὸν τῶν πατέρων
5And he arose and kissed them, and said unto them: Hear, my brethren, and do ye my children, give ear to Reuben your father, in the commands which I give unto you.
6And behold I call to witness against you this day the God of heaven, that ye walk not in the sins of youth and fornication, wherein I was poured out, and defiled the bed of my father Jacob.
Ἐδὼν ἐκεῖ Ἐούδαν καὶ Γὰδ καὶ ᾿Ασήρδ, τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς αὐτοῦ, εἶπεν αὐτοῖς ᾿Αναστήσατέϊἔ μεῖδ, ὅπως ἐᾷ εἴπω τοῖς μου καὶ τοῖς τέκνοις ἢ ὅσα ἔχω ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ μου κρυπτά. γὰρ ἐκλείπω ἀπὸ τοῦ β-ἀ,. Ἐ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς
7And I tell you that he smote me with a sore plague in my loins for seven months; and had not my father Jamb prayed for me to the Lord, the Lord would have destroyed me.
8For I was thirty years old when I wrought the evil thing before the Lord, and for seven months I was sick unto death.
᾿Ακούσατε, ἘΔδελφοί μου καὶ μου ἐνωκλαύσας τίσᾳσθεδδ Ῥουβὴμϑ τοῦ πατρὸς ὑμῶν ὅσα ἐγὼ ἐντέλλομαι ὑμῖν
9And after this I repented with set purpose of my soul for seven years before the Lord.
Καὶ ἘϊΪδοὺ ἐπιμαρτύρομαι ὑμῖν τὸν Θεὸν τοῦ Αὐθάορ οὐρανοῦ σήμερον, Ἐδπως μὴ πορευθῆτε ἐν ἀγνοίᾳ νεότητος ἀδελφοί Γαὶ πορνείᾳ, Ἐὲν ἐξεχύθην ἐγὼ καὶ κοίτην δὰ τοῦ πατρός μον Ἰακώβ.
10And wine and strong drink I drank not, and flesh entered not into my mouth, and I ate no pleasant food; but I mourned over my sin, for it was great, such as had not been in Israel.
11And now hear me, my children, what things I saw concerning the seven spirits of deceit, when I repented.
ἘΛέγω δὲ ὑμῖν ὅτι Ἐἔπληξέ με. ἐξέπληξέ ὃ ἐνέπληξέ κύριος, ὁ θεός. μῆνας δ᾽ ἑπτά καὶ εἰ μὴ Ἐδ πατήρ μου ᾿Ιακὼβ ὅδ προσηύξατοῦ περὶ ἐμοῦ πρὸς Κύριονδδ ἤθελεδδ Κύριος ἀνελεῖν με.
12Seven spirits therefore are appointed against man, and they are the leaders in the works of youth.
13And seven other spirits are given to him at his creation, that through them should be done every work of man.
Ἤμην ἐτῶν τριάκοντα ὅτε τὸ πονηρὸν ἐνώπιον Κυρίουδϑ καὶ ἐμαλακίσθην μῆνας ἑπτὰ ἕως
14The first is the spirit of life, with which the constitution of man is created.
15The second is the sense of sight, with which ariseth desire.
Καὶ Ἐμετὰ ἐν προαιρέσει ψυχῆς μου ἑπτὰ ἔτη μετενόησα ἐνώπιον Κυρίου Ὁ, ἐγευοἴνον καὶ σίκερα οὐκ ἔπιον, καὶ κρέας ὃ οὐκ εἰσῆλθεν Ἐδν τῷ στόματί ὁ μου καὶ πᾶν Ἶ ἄρτον ἐπιοὐ μὴ θυμίας οὐκ ἔφαγον δ᾽ ἤμην πενθῶν ἐπὶ τῇ ἁμαρτίᾳ μεγάλη γὰρ ἦν, οὗ γέγονεν ἐν Ἰσραὴλ οὕτως καὶ ἑπτὰ πνευμάτων τῆς πλάνης ἐν τῇ μετανοίᾳ
16The third is the sense of hearing, with which cometh teaching.
Ἑπτὰ Βελίαρ. ἐμὰ πνεύματα ἐδόθη κατὰ τοῦ ἀνθρώπου καὶ εἰσιν κεφαλαὶ τῶν ἔργων τοῦ νεωτερισμοῦ, Ἰσραὴλ οὕτως. ἕτερα ἑπτὰ πνεύματα ἐδόθηδ ᾿αὐτῷ τῆς κτίσεως τοῦ εἶναι ἐν αὐτοῖς πᾶν ἔργον ἀνθρώπον. ἸπΠρῶτον πνεῦμα ζωῆς, μεθ᾽’ ἧς ἡ σύστασιςϊδ κτίζεται. σεως ΦΔΔεύτερον πνεῦμα ὁράσεως, μεθ᾽ ἧς γίνεται ἐπιθυμία. Τρίτον πνεῦμα ἀκοῆς μεθ᾽ ἧς γίνεται διδασκαλία. Τέταρτον πνεῦμα ὀσφρήσεως, μεθ᾽ ἧς γεύσεις δεδομέναι εἰς ὁλκὴν ἀέρος καὶ ἀναπνοῆς.
17The fourth is the sense of smell, with which tastes are given to draw air and breath.
18The fifth is the power of speech, with which cometh knowledge.
Πέμπτον πνεῦμα λαλιᾶς, μεθ᾽ ἧς γίνεται γνῶσις.
19The sixth is the sense of taste, with which cometh the eating of meats and drinks; and by it strength is produced, for in food is the foundation. of strength.
20The seventh is the power of procreation and sexual intercourse, with which through love of pleasure sins enter in.
Ἕκτον πνεῦμα γεύσεως μεθ᾽ ἧς βρῶσις βρωμάτων τε καὶ πομάτων καὶ ἰσχὺς ἐν αὐτῷ κτίζεται ἔδτι ἐν βρώμασίν ἐστιν ἣ ὑπόστασις τῆς ἰσχύος Ἕβδομον πνεῦμα σπορᾶς καὶ συνουσίας, μεθ᾽ ἧς συνέρχονται διὰ τῆς φιληδονίας ἁμαρτίαι
21Wherefore it is the last in order of creation, and the first in that of youth, because it is filled with ignorance, and leadeth the youth as a blind man to a pit, and as a beast to a precipice.
Διὰ τοῦτο ἔσχατόν ἐστι τῆς κτίσεως δϊ καὶ πρῶτον τῆς νεότητος, ὅτι ἀγνοίας πεπλήρωται καὶ αὕτη τὸν νεώτερον ὁδηγεῖ τυφλὸν ἐπὶ βόθρον καὶ ὡς κτῆνος ἐπὶ κρημνόν
22Besides all these there is an eighth spirit of sleep, with which is brought about the trance of nature and the of death.
23With these spirits are mingled the spirits of error.
᾿ ἘΓῈπὶ πᾶσιν τούτοις ὄγδοον πνεῦμα τοῦ ὕπνου κρυμνον, κρεμνον. ᾿α. αδ΄ τοδὰ καὶ ἐπὶ πᾶσι. ἐπὶ πᾶσ. ὅ αὖ, μεθ᾽ οὖ ἐκτίσθη ἔκστασις Ἷ φύσεως καὶ εἰκὼν τοῦ θανάτου.
24First, the spirit of fornication is seated in the nature and in the senses;
25The second, the spirit of insatiableness in the belly;
ῬΤούτοις τοῖς ὃ πνεύμασι συμμίγνυται τὰ πνεύματα τῆς πλάνης
26The third, the spirit of fighting, in the liver and gall.
Πρῶτον Ἐτὸ τῆς πορνείας πνεῦμα ὃ ἐν τῇ φύσει καὶ αἰσθήσεσιν. ἔγκειται πνεῦμα ἀπληστείας γαστρός,
27The fourth is the spirit of obsequiousness and chicanery, that through officious attention one may be fair in seeming.
28The fifth is the spirit of pride, that one may be boastful and arrogant.
Τρίτον πνεῦμα μάχης ἐν τῷ ἥπατι καὶ τῇ χόλῃ. Τέταρτον πνεῦμα ἀρεσκείας καὶ μαγἵνα διὰ περιεργείας ὡραῖος ὀφθῇ.
29The sixth is the spirit of lying, in perdition and jealousy to practise deceits, and concealments from kindred and friends.
30The seventh is the spirit of injustice, with which are thefts and acts of rapacity, that a man may fulfil the desire of his heart; for injustice worketh together with the other spirits by the taking of gifts.
Πέμστὸν πνεῦμα ὑπερηφανείας ἵνα καυχᾶταιδ καὶ μεγαλοφρονῇ ἘΞΈκτον πνεῦμα Ψεύδουςδ ἀπωλείᾳ καὶ ζήλῳ τοῦ Ἐχλάττειν λόγους καὶ κρύπτειν λόγους Γαὐτοῦ Ἑἀπὸ γένους καὶ οἰκείων
31And with all these the spirit of sleep is joined which is that of error and fantasy. 32 And so perisheth every young man, darkening his mind from the truth, and not understanding the law of God, nor obeying the admonitions of his fathers, as befell me also in my youth.
33And now, my children, love the truth, and it will preserve you: hear ye the words of Reuben your father.
Ἕβδομον πνεῦμα ἀδικίας, μεθ᾽ ἧς διὰ περιεργεία. δή. περιεργίας. ἃ περιεργασις. κλοπαὶ ἶ καὶ γρηπίσματα ἵνα ἐμπλήσει φιληδονίαν καρδίας αὐτοῦ; Ἢ γὰρ ἀδικία συνεργεῖ λοιποῖς ὃ πνεύμασιν διὰ τῆς δοσοληψίας Ἐπὶ πᾶσι δὲ τούτοις τὸ πνεῦμα τοῦ ὕπνουδο συνάπτεται Ἐδ ἐστιδ καὶ ὄγδοον φαντασίας
34Pay no heed to the face of a woman,
Καὶ οὕτως ἀπόλλυται πᾶς νεώτερος πνεῦμα. σκοτίζων τὸν νοῦν αὐτοῦ δ᾽ ἀπὸ τῆς ἀληθείας, καὶ μὴ Ἐσυνιὼν τῷ νόμῳ τοῦ θεοῦ ὅ, μήτε ἀκούων νουθεσίας καὶ φανπατέρων αὐτοῦϑλ ὡς ὃ κἀγὼ ἔπαθονδ᾽ ἐν τῷ νεωτερισμῷ τασία. μου, νῦν, τέκνα τὴν ἀλήθειαν ἀγαπᾶτε τοῦ πατρὸς ὑμῶν μήτεϊδ͵ συνδιάζετεϊδ μετὰ Ἐθηλείας ὑπάνδρου ἴ αὶ ὄψιν. περιεργάζεσθε πρᾶξιν γυναικῶν. ποληψίας. ὁ δωροληψίας. δολολειψίας. ἐν. ἡ. πλάνη καὶ φαντασία. πλάνῃ καὶ φαντασίᾳ ὦ τῆς πλάνης καὶ τῆς φαντασίας. μὴ γὰρ εἶδον ἐγὼ Βάλλαν λουομένην ἐν σκεπινῷ δδ τόπῳ, οὐκ Ἐὰν ἔπιπτον εἰς τὴν ἀνομίαν τὴν μεγάλην. ἀπόντος.
35Nor associate with another man's wife,
36Nor meddle with affairs of womankind.
Συλλαβοῦσα γὰρ ἡ διάνοιά μου τὴν γυναικείαν γύμ. οὐκ εἴασέ με ὑπνῶσαι ἕως ἔπραξα τὸ βδέλυγμα.
37For had I not seen Bilhah bathing in a covered place, I had not fallen into this great iniquity.
38For my mind taking in the thought of the woman's nakedness, suffered me not to sleep until I had wrought the abominable thing.
᾿Απιόντος γὰρ Ἰακὼβ πατρός Ἶν μεθύπρὸς Ἰσαὰκ τὸν πατέρα αὐτοῦ, ὄντων ἡμῶν ἐν Γαδὲρ πλησίον Βηθλεέμϑϑ, Ἐῆἣν ἡ Βάλλα μεθυσθεῖσα κἀγὼ εἰσκαὶ ἣν κοιμωμένη ἀκάλυπτος ἐν τῷ κοιτῶνι αὐτῆς τς
39For while Jacob our father had gone to Isaac his father, when we were in Eder, near to Ephrath in Bethlehem, Bilhah became drunk and was asleep uncovered in her chamber.
Εἰσελθὼν οὖν ἐγὼ καὶ θεασάμενος τὴν γύμνωσιν αὐτῆς ἔπραξα τὴν ἀσέβειαν, μὴ αἰσθανθείσης αὐτῆς καί, καταλιπὼν ἀσέβειαν, αὐτὴν κοιμωμένην, ἐξῆλθον.
40Having therefore gone in and beheld her nakedness, I wrought the impiety without her perceiving it, and leaving her sleeping departed.
41And forthwith an angel of God revealed to my father concerning my impiety, and he came and mourned over me, and touched her no more.
ἘΚαὶ ἄγγελος θεοῦ ἀπεκάλυψεν τῷ πατρί περὶ τῆς ἀσεβείας Ἰακώβ. μου καὶ ἐλθὼν ἐπένθησεν Ἐ ἐμοὶ μηκέτι αὐτῆς ἁψάμενος ἐπένθει. πράξεις. αἱ ὄψιν. πρόσωπον. κάλλος καὶ πράξεις, εὗρον μεθνονταν κοιμωμένην, εἰσελθὼν ἔπρ. τὴν αὐτῆς. τοδὰ Εὐφρανθά. Ἑὐφραθά, ᾿Αφραταί, ἀκάλυφος κατέκειτο. ὦ Βαλλὰν ἦν μεθύ. καὶ κοιμ. ἀκάληπτα κατέκοιτος ἴδ
