1PAY no heed, therefore, my children, to the beauty of women, nor set your mind--on their affairs; but walk in singleness of heart in the fear of the Lord, and expend labour on good works, and on study and on your flocks, until the Lord give you a wife, whom He will, that ye suffer not as I did.
Μὴ οὖν προσέχετε, πέκνα μου, κάλλος γυναικῶνϑ, μηδὲ ἐννοεῖσθε τὰς πράξεις αὐτῶν ἀλλὰ πορεύεσθε ἐν ἁπλότητι καρδίας, ἐν φόβῳ κυρίουδ, καὶ μοχθοῦντεςἷ ἐν ἔργοις καὶ Ἐν γράμμασι, καὶ ἐν τοῖς ποιμνίοις ὑμῶν, ἕως Ἐδ κύριος δώῃ ὑμῖν ἣν αὐτὸς θέλει ἵνα μὴ πάθητεϊδ, ὡς κἀγώ,
2For until my father's death I had not boldness to look in his face, or to speak to any of my brethren, because of the reproach.
Ὅτι ἄχρι τελευτῆς τοῦ πατρός μου οὐκ εἶχον παρρησίαν ἀτενίσαι. εἰς Ἔτὸ ᾿Ιαώβ.ι πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ, ἣ λαλῆσαί Ἔτινι τῶν ἀδελφῶν διὰ τοὺς ὀνειδισμούς ἕως νῦν ἡ συνείδησίς ἁμαρτίας. συνέχει με περὶ τῆς ἀσεβείας μου.
3Even until now my conscience causeth me anguish on account of my impiety.
4And yet my father comforted me much, and prayed for me unto the Lord, that the anger of the Lord might pass from me, even as the Lord showed.
Καίγε πολλὰ δ᾽ παρεκάλεσένδ᾽, μεῖϑ ὁ πατήρ ηὔξατο τὸ περὶ ἐμοῦ κύριον ἵνα παρέλθῃ ἐμοῦ ἡ ὀργὴ καθὼς καὶ δ᾽ ἔδειξέ κύριος, ᾿Απὸ δὲ τότε Ῥξως παρεφυλαξάμην καὶ οὐχ ἥμαρτον.
5And thenceforth until now I have been on my guard and sinned not.
Διὰ ὅσα ὑμῖν, καὶ οὐ μὴ ἁμάρτητεδ,,
6Therefore, my children, I say unto you, observe all things whatsoever I command you, and ye shall not sin.
ἘΒόθρος σ.Α γάρ ἐστι ψυχῆς ἡ ἁμαρτία τῆς πορνείας χωρίζουσα ἀπὸδϑ μον. θεοῦ καὶ προσεγγίζουσα εἰδώλοις, ὅτι αὕτη Ἐ ἐστὶν ἡ δδ πλανῶσα τὸν νοῦν τὴν διάνοιαν καὶ νεανίσκους ἄδην, οὐκ ἐν καιρῷ αὐτῶν. πολλοὺς ἀπώλεσεν ἡ πορνεία ὅτι κἂν γέρων ἢ εὐγενής, πλούσιος, κἂν πένης Ἐὀνειδισμὸν ἑαντὸν ἑαυτῷ φέρει παρὰ τοὺς υἱοὺς τῶν ἀνθρώπων καὶ πρόσκομμα τῴ Βελίαρ, Ἠκούσατε γὰρ περὶ Ἰωσὴφ πῶς ἐφύλαξεν ἑαυΤαρὰ τῷ τὸν ἀπὸ γυγαικός, καὶ τὰς ἐννοίας ἐκαθάρισεν ἀπὸ πάσης δ᾽ τοῦ πορνείας, ἴ καὶ εὗρεν χάριν ἐνώπιον θεοῦ καὶ ἀνθρώοὖν Τῇ κων.
7For a pit unto the soul is the sin of fornication, separating it from God, and bringing it near to idols, because it deceiveth the mind and understanding, and leadeth down young men into Hades before their time.
8For many hath fornication destroyed; because, though a man be old or noble, or rich or poor, he bringeth reproach upon himself with the sons of men and derision with Beliar.
ἘΚαὶ πολλὰ ἐποίησεν αὐτῷ ἡ Αἰγνπτία, καὶ τῶν ἀνμάγους προσεκάλεσεν καὶ αὐτῷ προσήνεγκε Ἃ οἱ ἐπειδὴ γὰρ ἐφύλαξεν ἑαυτὸν ᾿Ιωσὴφ ἀπὸ πάσης. κυρίου. υἱοῖς τῶν ἀνθ. ὄνειδος αὐτὸν αὐτῶν ποιεῖ καὶ γέλωτα παρὰ τῷ καὶ τοῖς τοῦτον βουλομένης. αὐτῷ φιλημάτων προσήνεγκεν. προσήνεγκεν αὐτῷ. καὶ Ὁ οὐκ ἐδέξατο τὸ διαβούλιον τῆς ψυχῆς αὐτοῦ ἐπιθυμίαν πονηράν ὁ θεὸς τῶν πατέρων ὑμῶν ἐρρύσατο καί. αὐτὸν ἀπὸ παντὸς πονηροῦ ἴδ κεκρυμμένου θανάτου. ἋΧΓτ, Ἐὰν γὰρ μὴ κατισχύσειϊδ ἣ πορνεία Ἐτὴν ἔννοιαν ἴ ὑμῶν οὐδὲ ὁ Βελίαρ Ἐδύναται κατισχῦσαιδ᾽ ὑμῶν ὅτι Πονηραὶ Γγάρ εἰσιν γυναῖκες, τέκνα μου, Ἐ καὶ ἐν μὴ ἔχοντῷ μὴ ἔχειν αὐτὰς ἐξουσίαν Ἐἢ δύναμιν᾽ ἐπὶ ἄνδραῦ, δολιεύονται ἐν σχήμασινϊ ὅπωι αὐτὸν ἑαυτὰς ϑυγάμεθε ἐπισπάσονται
9For ye heard regarding Joseph how he guarded himself from a woman, and purged his thoughts from all fornication, and found favour in the sight of God and men.
Καὶ διὰ σχήματος οὐκ Κατα Ἰσχύουσιν καταγοητεύσασθαι τοῦτον δι᾽ καταγωνίζνται Ὅτι καίγεο αὐτῶν εἶπέν μοι ὁ ἄγγελος τοῦ Θεοῦ, καὶ ἐδίδαξέ ὅτι αἰ γυναῖκες ἡττῶνται τῷ πνεύματι τῆς πορνείας Ῥὑπὲρ τὸν ἄνδρα καὶ Ἐδν καρδίᾳ μηχανῶνται τῶν ἀνθρώπων., καὶ διὰ τῆς κοσμήσεως πλανῶσιν αὐτῶν τὰς διανοίας ὅδ, καὶ διὰ τοῦ βλέμματος Ἐτὸν ἰὸν ἐνσπείρουσιν καὶ τότε τῷ ἔργῳ αἰχμαλωτίζουσιν
10For the Egyptian woman did many things unto him, and summoned magicians, and offered him love potions, but the purpose of his soul admitted no evil desire.
11Therefore the God of your fathers delivered him from every evil and hidden death.
Οὐ δύναται γυνὴ Ἐᾶνδρα βιάσαι εἰς πρόσωπον ἀλλ᾽ ἐν σχήμασι πορνικοῖς τοῦτον πανουργεύεται
12For if fornication overcomes not your mind, neither can Beliar overcome you.
ἘΛοιπὰν φεύγετε τέκνα μου τὴν πορνείαν καὶ προστάσσετε ταῖς γυναιξὶν σασθαι. ὑμῶν καὶ ταῖς θυγατράσιν ὑμῶν ἵνα μὴ κοσμῶσι τὰς κεφαλὰς αὐτῶν δ᾽ καὶ τὰς ὄψεις ἀπάτην διανοίας ὅτι πᾶσα γυνὴ Ἶ δολιευομένη ἐν τούτοις κόλασιν αἰώνιον τετήρηται,
13For evil are women, my children; and since they have no power or strength over man, they use wiles by outward attractions, that they may draw him to themselves.
Οὕτως ἔθελξαν τοὺς Ἐξγρηγόρουςδϑ ἱτοὺς πρὸ τοῦ κατακλυσμοῦ ἐκεῖνοι γὰρ’ συνεχῶς δϑ ὁρῶντες Γαὐτὰς ἐγένοντο καὶ ἐνδ ἐπιθυμίᾳ καὶ συνέλαβον τῇ διανοίᾳ πρᾶξιν δ᾽ Ἔμετεἐλλήλωνι σχηματίζοντο ἄνδραδϑ καὶ ἐν τῇ συνουσίᾳ τῶν ἀνθρώ. ἀνδρῶν αὐτῶν συνεφαίνοντο αὐταῖς
14And whom they cannot bewitch by outward attractions, him they overcome by craft.
15For moreover, concerning them, the angel of the Lord told me, and taught me, that women are overcome by the spirit of fornication more than men, and in their heart they plot against men; and by means of their adornment they deceive first their minds, and by the glance of the eye instil the poison, and then through the accomplished act they take them captive.
ἘΚάκεῖναι δὲ πους. ἐἘἔπκπιθυμοῦσαι Ἐτῇ διανοίᾳ τῆς φαντασίας αὐτῶν ἔτεκον γίγαντας. Ἐφαίνοντο γὰρ αὐταῖς Ἐοΐ ᾿Ἐγρήγοροιϊ ἕως καθαρεύτοῦ οὐρανοῦ φθάνοντες ἴῦ. εἰν τῇ
16For a woman cannot force a man openly, but by a harlot's bearing she beguiles him.
Φυλάξατεϊ οὖν; ἀπὸ πορνείας, καὶ Ἐ ἔστε καθατῇ διανοίᾳ Ἐφυλάξατε καὶ Ἐτὰς αἰσθήσεις ὑμῶν ἀπὸ ασθε. γυναικῶν,
17Flee, therefore, fornication, my children, and command your wives and your daughters, that they adorn not their heads and faces to deceive the mind: because every woman who useth these wiles bath been reserved for eternal punishment.
Κἀκείνας ἐντέλλεσθε μὴ συνδιάζειν ἀνδράσιν ἵνα καὶ αὐταὶ καθαρεύωσι᾽ τῇ διανοίᾳ. θηλείας. συνεχεῖς συντυχίαιδ, κἂν μὴ πραχθῇ τὸ ἀσέβημα, αὐταῖς μέν ἐστι νόσος ἀνίατος, ἡμῖν. δὲ ἢ εἰς ὄλεθρον ὄνειδος Βελίαρ καὶ ὄνειδος αἰώνιον
18For thus they allured the Watchers [*1] who were before the flood; for as these continually beheld them, they lusted after them, and they conceived the act in their mind; for they changed themselves into the shape of men, and appeared to them when they were with their husbands.
19And the women lusting in their minds after their forms, gave birth to giants, for the Watchers appeared to them as reaching even unto heaven.
Ὅτι ἡ᾽ πορνεία Ἐοὔῦτε Βελίαρ αἱώνιον. τῇ τὰς ἃ τὰς φαν. τὰς διανοίας καὶ τῇ ὃ. οι. φυλάξασθε. δά, φυλάσσετε. φυλάσσεσθε. σύνεσιν Τεὐσέβειαν ἢ ἔχει ἐν ἑαυτῇ καὶ πᾶς ζῆλος κατοικεῖ ἐν τῇ ἐπιθυμίᾳ αὐτῆς.
20Beware, therefore, of fornication; and if you wish to be pure in mind, guard your senses from every woman.
Διὰ τοῦτο ἴοῦν λέγω ὑμῖν ὠλώσετε,ϑ τοῦδ Λευὶ καὶ ὑψωθῆναι ὑπὲρ αὐτούς ἀλλ᾽ διὰ οὗ ἰσχύσετε͵,
21And command the women likewise not to associate with men, that they also may be pure in mind.
Ὁ γὰρ Θεὸς ὅ Ἐοεήσει τὴν ἐκδίκησιν αὐτῶν ὑμεῖς δὲ ἀποθανεῖτεϑ θανάτῳ πονηρῷ.
22For constant meetings, even though the ungodly deed be not wrought, are to them an irremediable disease, and to us a destruction of Beliar and an eternal reproach.
23For in fornication there is neither understanding nor godliness, and all jealousy dwelleth in the lust thereof.
Τῷ γὰρ σεσθε. Λευὶ ἔδωκεν Θεὸς τὴν καὶ τῷ ῥ Ἰούδᾳ αὐτοῦ Ἐμοὶ δὲ καὶ Δὰν καὶ τῷ ᾿ωσήφ, ἢ τοῦ εἶναι
24Therefore, then I say unto you, ye will be jealous against the sons of Levi, and will seek to be exalted over them; but ye shall not be able.
Διὰ ἐντέλλομαι ὑμῖν ἀκούειν κυρίου. Λευί, Ἔδτι αὐτὸς γνώσεταιδθ νόμον θεοῦδ, καὶ Ἐδιαστελεῖ ἢ, διαεἰς κρίσιν καὶ θυσιάσειδϑ ὑπὲρ τοῦδέ Ἰσραὴλ μέχρι τελειώἐν σεως χρόνων Ἐἀρχιερεὺς χριστός ὃν εἶπεν Κύριος. παντός. ὁ λαλεῖν.
25For God will avenge them, and ye shall die by an evil death. For to Levi God gave the sovereignty and to Judah with him and to me also, and to Dan and Joseph, that we should be for rulers.
26Therefore I command you to hearken to Levi, because he shall know the law of the Lord, and shall give ordinances for judgement and shall sacrifice for all Israel until the consummation of the times, as the anointed High Priest, of whom the Lord spake.
Ὁρκῶ ὑμᾶς τὸν Θεὸν οὐρανοῦ τοῦ δὶ ποιεῖν ἀλήθειαν Ἔξκαστος πρὸς τὸν πλησίον αὐτοῦδδ ἀγάπην ἔχειν ἕκαστος πρὸς τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ
27I adjure you by the God of heaven to do truth each one unto his neighbour and to entertain love each one for his brother.
Καὶ πρὸς τὸν ὅ Λευὶ ἐγγίσατε ἐν ταπεινώσει καρδίας Γὑμῶν ἵνα Ἐ δέξησθε εὐλογίαν ἐκ τοῦ στόματος αὐτοῦ.
28And draw ye near to Levi in humbleness, of heart, that ye may receive a blessing from his mouth.
Αὐτὸς εὐλογήσει τὸν Ἰσραὴλ καὶ τὸν Ἰούδαν ἐν αὐτῷ ἐξελέξατο Κύριος βασιλεύειν Ἔ παντὸς τοῦ
29For he shall bless Israel and Judah, because him hath the Lord chosen to be king over all the nation.
30And bow down before his seed, for on our behalf it will die in wars visible and invisible, and will be among you an eternal king.
Καὶ προσκυνήσατεϊθ Ἐτὸ σπέρμα αὐτοῦ, λαῶν. ὅτιϊ ὑπὲρ ὑμῶν ἀποθανεῖται ἐν πολέμοις ὁρατοῖς καὶ δὶ ἀοράτοις. καὶ Ἐὲν ὑμῖν ἔσται βασιλεὺς αἰώνιος
31And Reuben died, having given these commands to his sons. And they placed him in a coffin until they carried him up from Egypt, and buried him in Hebron in the cave where his father was.
ἘΚαὶ ἀπέθανε Ῥουβίμ, ἐντειλάμενος τοῖς υἱοῖς αὐτοῦ ταῦταϊ. ἔθεντοξϑ αὐτὸν ἐν σορῷ, ἀπέθανε Ῥ. ὁ πρῶτος τοῦ υἱός, καὶ ἔζησε ἔτη ταῦτα λέξας ἀπέθανε ὅτεϑ αὐτὸν ἐξ Αἰγύπτου ἔθαψαν αὐτὸνδ Ἢ ἂν ἐν τῷ σπηλαίῳ Ἐδπου ὃ πατὴρ αὐτοῦϑ. οἱ πα
